South Burnett CTC - Working For Our Community
Wondai Country Festival
The inaugural Wondai Country Festival will be held in and around Coronation Park in Wondai's CBD in conjunction with the monthly Wondai Country Markets (see entry below) from 7:00am this morning through to 5:00pm this evening. The Country Fair will feature a great roll-up of entertainment including Wondai and Kingaroy school dance groups, whipcrackers from St John’s Lutheran School, the Wondai Town Band, the Wondai State School Choir, the Wondai CWA Choir and the Proston Line Dancers. Children can have a fun time with the Blue Gum Farm TV Show, face and body painting, Creative Arts In The Park, and a jumping castle. There'll be Fun Runs and Fun Rides (for cyclists) over three tracks along the South Burnett Rail Trail, too. And at 3:00pm this afternoon, the doors will open at Wondai Town Hall for the Slim Dusty tribute show “Dustier Than Ever”. There are small charges to take part in the Fun Runs or Fun Rides, and to see "Dustier Than Ever", but all other activities are free and everyone is welcome. Wondai Country Markets
The Wondai Regional Art Gallery's popular monthly Wondai Country Markets will be operating at Coronation Park in Wondai's CBD from 7:00am to 12:00 noon today. Today's markets will feature stallholders selling fresh fruit and vegetables, arts and crafts, useful knick-knacks and clothing. There'll also be live entertainment; lots and lots of other stalls selling great gifts and goodies; and special hand-made treasures from local artisans available from the Gallery's new "Studio" building just a short stroll across the park. The Wondai Kindergarten's BBQs will also be firing up from 7:00am to dish out hearty breakfasts to early bargain hunters. Cherish This Day Official Launch & High Tea - Kingaroy
The Cherish This Day non-profit wedding industry group will be holding an official launch and unveiling their new digital bridal magazine with a High Tea in the South Burnett Regional Council forecourt in Glendon Street, Kingaroy between 5:30pm and 7:30pm this afternoon. Guests will be welcomed with a glass of bubbly and finger foods, and all interested people are welcome to attend.
Proston Men's Shed
The Proston Men's Shed will be meeting at the old railway station building at Railway Park in Rodney Street, Proston for its regular Saturday morning meeting today, kicking off with a cuppa at 9:00am. Saturday Rugby League
T.J. O'Neill Oval in Kingaroy will be the place to be for league fans on Saturday with the Kingaroy Red Ants holding their special "pink day" Playing For A Cure to raise money for cancer research. There'll be heaps of pink balloons, a jumping castle for the kids, a cake stall and other activities. Games against Nanango will start at 8:00am with U6s and U10s, 9:10am U12s, 10:00am U14s, 2:00pm U16s, 3:15pm U18s, and 4:45pm A Grade. There'll also be girls' exhibition matches at 11:00am U14s, noon U16s, and 1:00pm U18s. Other rugby league matches will be played at Wondai and Murgon. At Wondai, the Wolves will be playing the Central Burnett Brumbies with U6s and U8s at 9:00am, U10s at 10:00am, U12s at 10:50am, and U16s at 11:40am. Wondai seniors have the bye. At Murgon, the Mustangs will face the Cherbourg Hornets: 9:00am U6s and U8s, 10:00am U16s Cherbourg v Chinchilla, 11:30am U10s, 1:00pm U12s, 2:00pm U14s Cherbourg v Central Burnett, and 3:00pm A Grade.
The Eulogy and Love And Other Flushes - Nanango
The Nanango Theatre Company will be giving the final performance of their latest production - two one-act plays ("The Eulogy" and "Love and Other Flushes") - at the Nanango Playhouse at the corner of Elk and George Streets, Nanango at 2:30pm this afternoon (curtain goes up at 3:00pm). Tickets - which include supper at intermission - are $20 for adults and $15 for pensioners or students. They can be purchased in advance from the Nanango Visitor Information Centre in Henry Street, Nanango, or at the door before each performance, if not sold out.
Bowls Club Bingo - Kingaroy
The Kingaroy Bowls Club at 141 Youngman St, Kingaroy will be running bingo matches from 7:30pm this evening with over $1000 in prizes on offer. More details from the club on (07) 4162-1404
AFL Heritage Day - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Saints will be playing against the Toowoomba Tigers at Lyle Vidler Oval (next to Beangrowers) in Youngman Street, Kingaroy today. This year marks the 20th year since the former Bulldogs AFL side won the Grand Final, so the Saints will be taking to the field in heritage "doggy" colours. All former South Burnett AFL players, coaches, helpers and supporters are invited along for the celebrations, and a bar and canteen will be operating on the grounds. The women's side will play at 1:30pm, and the men's match will get underway at 3:20pm.
Kingaroy Rotary Club Handover Dinner
The Kingaroy Rotary Club will be holding its annual Handover Dinner at the Senior Citizens Centre at the corner of Avoca and Kingaroy Streets (opposite SupaIGA) from 6:30pm to around 8:30pm this evening. The dinner sees a new club president appointed for the coming year. All members and invited guests are reminded that the hall will be opened at 6:30pm for a 7:00pm start, and the dress code is formal.
Girls Only Come & Try Day - Kingaroy
The Kingaroy Junior Motorcycle Speedway Club will be holding a Girls Only Come & Try Day on the main oval of Kingaroy Showgrounds in Youngman Street, Kingaroy from 8:15am this morning. The day is aimed at girls aged 4 to 16 who'd like to try motorcycling speedway in a safe and controlled environment for free. Riders must register at 8:15am at the club track with riding from 9:00am–11:30am. Girls must bring their own bike, boots, helmet, gloves, goggles, long pants and a long-sleeved shirt. Murgon Men's Shed
The Murgon Men's Shed will be holding their Saturday meeting at their shed in Macalister Street, Murgon (the former Murgon Railway Station) today. The Men's Shed meets every Wednesday and Saturday to work on projects and new members are always welcome.
Super Saturday Soccer - Wondai
The South Burnett's 2017 soccer season will hold its tenth round at the Wondai Soccer Grounds just north of the Wondai Sportsgrounds on the Bunya Highway north of Wondai's CBD today, and it will be a Super Saturday involving all 12 teams in the league that will be played on two fields. On Field 1, Nanango will play Wests in 2nd Division at 11:00am, Women's Division at 12:30pm and 1st Division at 2:00pm. And on Field 2, Gunners will play Barambag in 2nd Division at 11:00am, Women's Division at 12:30pm and 1st Division at 2:00pm. Admission to view the matches is free, and a canteen will be running at both venues. Spectators are very welcome!
Saturday Golf - Kingaroy
The Kingaroy Golf Club on the Bunya Highway south-west of Kingaroy will be holding their annual Keith and Anne Shaw Day - a 2-person ambrose for men and for women with GA handicap. There'll be a shotgun start at 11:00am. More details? Phone the golf club on (07) 4162-1720
