South Burnett CTC - Working For Our Community
Nanango Autumn Race Meeting
The Nanango Race Club will be holding their Autumn Race Meeting at the Lee Park Raceway in Racecourse Road just south of Nanango from 10:00am to around 5:00pm today. Today's races will have a "Shades Of Green" theme and everyone is encouraged to dress up in their best Autumn outfits and/or accessories to be in the running for some great Moffatdale Ridge Fashions Of The Field spot prizes. The race club's licensed bar and BBQ will be operating under the extended covered area; the race club canteen will be open for sit-down dining; and there'll be plenty of bookmakers and an on-course tote available in the betting ring to take your wagers. There's also plenty of undercover seating and lots of parking on course. The Autumn meeting is always popular and patrons are welcome to picnic on the lawns and even bring their own marquee if they like. This will be a bumper 7 race meeting and buses will be running to the races from Kingaroy's Glendon Street Bus Depot (12:00 noon) and the rear of Nanango's Fitzroy Hotel at 12:30pm. The first race will leave the barriers around 12:33pm, but gates will open earlier so go-getters can get a head start on that all-important socialising. Admission is just $10 for adults and $5 for pensioners (under-16s are free). Everyone is welcome!
Rugby League - Wondai & Kingaroy
Wondai-Proston Rugby League Club will be celebrating the 51st year since its clubhouse opened today (after COVID-19 disrupted last year's 50th anniversary plans ). Former Wolves will be returning for the day and there will be two A Grade games played: Cherbourg v Kingaroy at 1:15pm and Wondai v Nanango at 3:00pm. At noon, there will be a jersey presentation by ex-players. The clubhouse function will run from 12:30pm to 3:00pm ($5 entry) and will feature a bar, music, live entertainment and a memorabilia display. There will be a further celebration at the clubhouse from 5:00pm. Meanwhile, Junior rugby league matches will be played in Kingaroy at TJ O'Neill Oval. This Youth Suicide Prevention Day will include fundraising for various mental health charities. As well as the Under 6s to Under 12s games, there will be two Under 14s games; and the South Burnett Eagles will be in action against Valleys in Under 15s, Under 16s and Under 18s. Junior games kick off at 8:00am. At 10:30am, Murgon v Chinchilla in U14s; at 11:35am South Burnett v Valleys (U15s); at 1:35pm, South Burnett v Valleys (1:35pm); at 3:00pm, South Burnett v Valleys (U18s); at at 4:20pm, Kingaroy v Nanango (U14s).
Wondai Country Markets
The Wondai Regional Art Gallery's popular monthly Wondai Country Markets will be operating at Coronation Park in Wondai's CBD from 7:00am to 12:00 noon today, with stallholders selling everything from fresh fruit and vegetables through to arts and crafts, useful knick-knacks, foods and clothing. There'll also be live entertainment; lots and lots of other stalls selling great gifts and goodies; and special hand-made treasures from local artisans available from the Art Gallery's "Studio" building just a short stroll across the park. The BBQs will also be firing up from 6:45am to dish out hearty breakfasts for early bargain hunters. Aussie Rules - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Saints men's and women's teams will be back at Lyle Vidler Oval (just next to Bean Growers) in Youngman Street, Kingaroy this afternoon. At 12:30pm, the Saints' women's side will be in action followed by the Saints Men's clash at 2:30pm. Both teams will be facing Toowoomba Bombers. A bar and canteen will be operating on-site and spectators are very welcome!
Drive-In Movie Night - Kingaroy
Taabinga State School P&C will be holding a Drive-In Movie Night at the Kingaroy Machinery Club's grounds at Geoff Raph Drive near Kingaroy Airport from 4:30pm this evening. The event will screen the muilt-award winning animated classic Shrek (rated PG) at 5:30pm, followed by the popular adventure comedy Jumanji (rated PG) at 8:00pm. Family admission - with up to six people per car - is just $35 per car for either movie, but tickets must be booked online in advance before 4:00pm Saturday. This is a COVID Safe event and munchies and dagwood dogs can be pre-ordered when you book your tickets, but local food vendors will be on-site tonight, too. Everyone is welcome!
Nanango Mini Markets
The Nanango Mini Market, which runs on the 4th Saturday of each month (except January) outside the Churchyard Opp Shop at the corner of Drayton and Burnett Streets in Nanango, will be running from 7:00am to around noon this morning. Apart from offering great bargains at great prices - ranging from plants to craft work, DVDs, bric-a-brac, glassware, books, jewellery, photographic work and mosaic art - the markets also have a $2 sausage sizzle, $1.20 soft drinks ($2 for a coke) and gold coin donation tea and coffee if you get peckish. Wondai Parkrun
The Wondai parkrun group will be holding their weekly 5km timed runs at Coronation Park in Wondai at 7:00am this morning. Runners follow a course along the South Burnett Rail Trail and the parkrun group is free to join. Yarraman Markets
The Yarraman Progress Association's Yarraman Markets will be held on the vacant block at the corner of the D'Aguilar and New England Highways (ie opposite Bendigo Bank) in Yarraman from 7:00am until around 12:00 noon today. The markets feature trash and treasure stalls, car boot sellers, local produce and hand-made goods, as well as food stalls, and are held weekly. Murgon Men's Shed
The Murgon Men's Shed will be holding a meeting at their shed in Macalister Street, Murgon (the shed next to the former Murgon Railway Station) today. The Men's Shed meets every Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday to work on projects and new members are always welcome.
Love 2 Sing Karaoke - Murgon

Proston Rally Club Khanacross Weekend
The Proston Car Rally Club will be holding the first day of their weekend-long Proston Khanacross at their racing track today (the club's track is located 7.5km west of Proston at 757 Proston-Boondooma Road). Racing will commence early this morning and wrap up towards nightfall. Up to 50 cars attend Proston Rally Club meetings from all over Queensland and NSW and spectators are very welcome. There'll also be a BBQ and soft drinks stand running throughout the event, as well as a hearty breakfast supplied by the Proston Lions club available early on Sunday morning.
