South Burnett CTC - Working For Our Community
83rd Annual Blackbutt Show
The 83rd annual Blackbutt Show will be held at the Blackbutt Showgrounds in Hart Street, Blackbutt from 5:00am this morning (when the gates open) until late tonight. This year's Show will feature a full range of horse events (anything from led breed and ridden breed through to hacks and rider classes). There'll also be a big roll-up of cattle and poultry along with the sub-chamber Young Judges, Handlers and Paraders competitions; the popular woodchop and chainsawing competitions; lots of ring events; a Dog Show; pony rides section; and plenty of fun for children including face painting, a baby animal farm and a puppet show. As usual the Show will also feature a great spread of pavilion exhibits; sideshow alley; showbags; and trade displays. After dark there'll also be a great fireworks display, followed by live entertainment until midnight. Admission this year is still just $12.00 for adults or $5.00 for high school students and pensioners (children under 12 are admitted free). More details? Kingaroy QCWA Girls Craft Club
The Kingaroy QCWA Girls Craft Club will be holding its third Saturday of the month meeting at the Kingaroy QCWA Rooms at 122 Kingaroy Street, Kingaroy from 1:00pm to 4:00pm this afternoon. The club - which is for young girls aged 10 and above - teaches basic life skills like sewing, embroidery, healthy cooking and catering. Friendship Markets - Kingaroy
The third Saturday of the month Friendship Markets will be held at the Cheers Triangle end of the Kingaroy Showgrounds in Youngman Street, Kingaroy from 7:00am to around 12:00pm today. The markets are jointly run by the Kingaroy Rotary Club and Kingaroy Show Society and they feature a great array of arts, crafts, fruit and flower stalls. New stallholders are always very welcome! South Burnett Shed Men - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Shed Men will be holding their 52nd meeting at RBM Industrial Bags Pty Ltd at 4 Sawtell Street in Kingaroy from 4:00pm to around 7:00pm this evening. David Klingner will be the meeting's special guest speaker and all men and young blokes are very welcome along. The $15 meeting fee includes a BBQ dinner and dessert, tea/coffee and soft drinks, but under-15s can come along for free. More details? Saturday Soccer - Nanango And Kingaroy
The South Burnett's 2017 soccer season will hold its sixth round in Nanango and Kingaroy today. In Nanango, home team Nanango will play Gunners at the Burnett Street Soccer Fields, with 2nd Division hitting the park at 12:30pm, Women's Division at 2:00pm and 1st Division at 3:15pm. And in Kingaroy, Wests will play Barambah at Tom Alford Oval in Oliver Bond Street, with 2nd Division kicking off at 2:00pm, Women's Division at 3:30pm and 1st Division under lights at 5:00pm. Admission to view the matches is free, and a canteen will be running at both venues. Spectators are very welcome! Meanwhile, the 2017 Junior Soccer competition will continue today at the junior soccer fields in Oliver Bond Street, with the first matches getting underway at 8:30am in all classes from U6s to U10/11s. Cadets and U12/13s will hit the park slightly earlier at 8:00am.
Saturday Rugby League - Nanango and Murgon
Rugby league fans should head south or north today. In Nanango, Kingaroy's Red Ants will play home team The Stags, in U6s at 8:30am; U12s at 10:00am; U10s at 11:00am; U14s at 12:30pm; U16s at 1:30pm; and then this weekend's A-grade clash between Kingaroy and Nanango at 3:00pm. And north in Murgon, the Murgon Crusaders and Cherbourg Hornets are holding a big, alcohol-free Domestic Violence Awareness Family Fun Day which, in addition to footy and free admission, will offer free rides, free health checks, free craft activities, a bucking bull and an inflatable obstacle course. Games will get underway at 8:00am with U6s, U8s and U10s Crusaders playing Hornets. They'll be followed at 9:00am by the U12s, before a 10:00am U14s match between Murgon and Chinchilla. This will be followed by an U14 Girls match between Caboolture v and South Burnett at 11:00am; then an U16s Girls match at 12:15pm; and then an U18s Girls match at 1:30pm. After this, there'll be an U18s Boys match between Toowoomba Wattles and South Burnett at 2:55pm. This will be followed by an official opening at 4:40pm, and then the A-grade clash between the Crusaders and Hornets under lights at 5:30pm. Canteens will be running at both venues and spectators are very welcome.
Saturday Golf - Nanango
The Nanango Golf Club on the D'Aguilar Highway north of the CBD will be holding the 2nd round of their Ladies Club Championship with a seeded draw and tee off at 8:00am, followed by the 3rd round of their Men's Club Championship with a seeded in grade draw, and C Grade the first to tee off, at 10:00am this morning. Any members who haven't played all (or any) of the rounds are welcome to play, and will be slotted into their grades. There'll also be prizes on offer today. More details? Ladies Night Out - Kingaroy
In conjunction with the South Burnett Shed Men (see entry elsewhere this page), Glenice Larsen will be holding a Ladies Night Out at 19 Avocado Crescent in Kingaroy from 4:00pm to 7:00pm tonight. The meeting is open to all women and girls, and Belinda Klingner will be the special guest speaker. Guests should bring along a plate of finger food to share and an RSVP by May 15 would be appreciated to ensure there's sufficient seating. You can make one by phoning Glenice on (07) 4162-7130.
Mayor's Gala Charity Ball - Kingaroy
SOLD OUT: The annual Mayor's Gala Charity Ball will be held at Kingaroy Town Hall in Glendon Street, Kingaroy from 5:30pm until late this evening. The ball is a fundraiser for the South Burnett Community Hospital, and guests will be treated to a three course meal along with complimentary wines, and entertainment by award-winning stand-up comedian and ventriloquist Darren Carr. There will be an auction of sports memorabilia, raffles and a lucky door prize, and a dance band will also be on hand for after-dinner dancing. Tickets are $165 per head or $1650 for a table of 10, and are available at the Council’s Kingaroy Customer Service Centre.
Jeff Hancox - Kingaroy

7-A-Side Cricket Family Fun Day - Kumbia
The Kumbia Kindergarten and Kumbia Cricket Club will be holding a 7-A-Side Cricket Family Fun Day at the Kumbia Cricket Club's grounds off Bell Street from 8:00am this morning. The event is a fundraiser for both groups, and players of all ages are welcome (there'll be modified rules for women and children). Game fees are $70 per team of 7 players. There'll also be lots of child friendly fun activities, as well as prizes for the best dressed teams, and a bar and canteen will be open all day.
Ladies Morning Tea - Nanango
A Ladies Morning Tea will be held at the Uniting Church Hall at 44 Gipps Street in Nanango at 10:00am this morning. The event has been organised by Nanango's Stressbusters group, and all women and girls are welcome.
Nanango Electorate ALP Branch Meeting - Kingaroy
The Wondai, South Burnett and Somerset ALP branches will be holding a joint Nanango Electorate meeting at Lions Park in Kingaroy Street, Kingaroy (opposite The Peanut Van) at 10:00am this morning. Afterwards, the Wondai branch will be holding their own monthly general meeting at the Cecil Hotel in Mackenzie Street, Wondai at 11:00am this morning (or possibly a little later if the Kingaroy meeting takes longer). All people who'd like to join or have an interest in the party are very welcome to attend.
