Cooyar Show
After a surprise eleventh hour cancellation last year due to Cyclone Marcia, the 67th Annual Cooyar Show will be making a welcome return to the Cooyar Showgrounds at Rangemore Road in Cooyar from 8:00am this morning through until very late tonight. The Cooyar Show marks the start of the South Burnett's agricultural show season and it's always a really great family day out. This year's Grand Parade will run at 12:15pm and the Show will be officially opened at 12:30pm by Anne Woodrow from Bendigo Community Bank. As well as all the usual highlights including pavilion exhibits, stud beef cattle and Sideshow Alley, there’ll also be a Ute Muster, a fun Smash Up Derby, a Lumberjack Show, beef Young Judges & Paraders competitions, ring events and chainsawing. And in the evening there’ll be live music, a giant fireworks display and the ever-popular Cooyar Bull Ride. Entry to this year's Cooyar Show is still just $20 for adults and $5 for high school students (primary school aged children are free) and everyone is welcome along! For more information and/or show schedules, phone Show secretary Sue on (07) 4692-6200 or the Show Society's office (on Show day only) on (07) 4692-6281, or visit the Show's website.
Rugby League - Kingaroy
The Kingaroy Rugby League Football Club will be holding a special weekend for rugby league fans at their clubhouse at T.J. O'Neill Oval in Youngman Street, Kingaroy today and tomorrow. Some of the best junior rugby league footballers in Queensland will be on show when they play pre-season trial games for the Cyril Connell and Mal Meninga competitions. Today, the action will kick off at 1:00pm when Central Crows play Norths Devils in an U16s Cyril Connell match. This will be followed at 3:00pm by the U18s Central Crows and Norths Devils battling it out in the Mal Meninga competition. Then at 5:00pm, a South Burnett Invitational side will play Norths Devils to see who's boss. A bar and canteen will be operating all day, and admission to the grounds is $5.00. Note: Late last year eight junior South Burnett league players earned selection for either the Crows’ U16 or U18 squads, so there should be some familiar faces on the field.
6th Annual Windera Music Muster
Windera State School P&C will be holding their sixth annual Windera Music Muster at the school's leafy grounds on the Murgon-Gayndah Road from 1:00pm until around 12:00 midnight tonight. This open air concert is a fundraiser for the school's P&C to help them purchase resources for the kids, and there'll also be a licensed bar, children's rides, great food and market stalls on the grounds. If you enjoy a relaxing afternoon and evening of great music, good company and yummy food this is a great late-summer event you simply shouldn't miss. Admission is $15 for adults and $5 for high school students (primary school and below are free). Everyone's welcome, and you can obtain more details and/or book a $10 unpowered campsite if you want to stay over or a $20 market stall site by phoning 0487-675-253.
