South Burnett CTC - Working For Our Community
Wicked - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Musical Comedy Society will be presenting their debut performance of the Broadway musical Wicked at Kingaroy's Performing Arts Centre at the end of Markwell Street, Kingaroy at 7:00pm tonight. Wicked - based on the Wizard Of Oz - tells of the story of the conflict between Glinda The Good Witch and the Wicked Witch Of The West. The show debuted in 2003, and in 2019 became the 5th longest-running musical on Broadway, surpassing Les Miserables. It has also won three Tony Awards, seven Drama Desk Awards and a Grammy for its original cast album. Tickets to tonight's performance are $20 for adults, $15 for children and $10 for pensioners, and they can be booked online or obtained at the door. Four other performances will be held tomorrow and October 9-10.
Murgon Men's Shed
The Murgon Men's Shed will be holding a meeting at their shed in Macalister Street, Murgon (the shed next to the former Murgon Railway Station) today. The Men's Shed meets every Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday to work on projects and new members are always welcome.
Cooyar Campdraft
The second day of the three-day Cooyar Campdraft will be held at the Cooyar Showgrounds in Rangemore Road, Cooyar from 5:30am this morning until late in the afternoon. This year's campdraft is being run later than usual due to the pandemic and is expected to draw a very big roll-up. Today's action will feature the a Restricted Open Draft and a Ladies Draft (both with $1600 in prize money), a $500 Futurity Draft, a $200 Junior Draft, a $300 Juvenile Draft and a $2200 Novice Draft. Entry to the campdraft is 100% free for spectators, and there'll also be a bar and canteen running as well as plenty of campsites available in the Showgrounds if you want to stay over. Everyone is welcome!
Yarraman Men's Shed
The Yarraman Men's Shed at the end of Mill Street, Yarraman will be holding one of its regular get-togethers today. The Men's Shed is open Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays and new members are always welcome. More details? Send them an email
Cowgirls Gathering - Kilkivan
The second day of the inaugural 3-day Cowgirls Gathering will be held at the Kilkivan Equestrian Centre at Kilkivan Showgrounds in Mudlo Road, Kilkivan, kicking off at 7:00am this morning and running until around 10:00pm tonight. Today and tomorrow this event will offer a program of competitions, demonstrations, classes and clinics running simultaneously across multiple locations at the grounds, and on-site camping and glamping options are also available if you want to stay over. Spectator tickets today are $75 to $100, and more details can be found on the Cowgirls Gathering website.
Rufus Jack - Wondai
Pub rock band Rufus Jack will be performing at the Cecil Hotel in Mackenzie Street, Wondai from 7:30pm until late tonight. Admission is free and the hotel's kitchen will be running if you want dinner or a snack. More details? Phone the Cecil on (07) 4168-5460.
Nanango Country Markets
The Nanango Show Society will be holding their regular monthly Country Markets at the Nanango Showgrounds in Cairns Street from 6:00am to around 12:00 noon today. As usual, the markets will feature a wide variety of craft stalls, new and used goods, plants, poultry and pets, but they'll be operating in a COVID Safe way. The Nanango Markets are the largest rural market in south east Queensland and attract up to 420 stallholders. But new stallholders are always very welcome too! More info? Saturday Cricket - Kingaroy and Murgon
The Wooroolin Warriors will play Gympie Valleys at Lyle Vidler Oval in Youngman Street, Kingaroy (just next to Beangrowers) from 12:00 noon today; and in Murgon, Murgon will play Gympie Colts at the Murgon Showgrounds in Macalister Street, also at noon. Both matches are part of the fourth round of Gympie A-Grade Competition and spectators are very welcome.
Wondai Parkrun
The Wondai parkrun group will be holding their weekly 5km timed runs at Coronation Park in Wondai at 7:00am this morning. Runners follow a course along the South Burnett Rail Trail and the parkrun group is free to join. Nanango Parkrun
The Nanango parkrun group will be holding its weekly 5km timed walk/run along the Ros Gregor Trail at Tipperary Flat next to the D'Aguilar Highway south of Nanango at 7:00am this morning. Runners follow a course along the trail and the parkrun group is free to join. All you need to do is register (once) online at parkrun.com.au and bring the printed barcode to any parkrun event.
Proston Parkrun
The newly-formed Proston parkrun group will be holding its weekly 5km timed walk/run at Railway Park in Rodney Street, Proston at 7:00am this morning. Runners follow a course along the former railway line and the parkrun group is free to join. All you need to do is register (once) online at parkrun.com.au and bring the printed barcode to any parkrun event.
Yarraman Markets
The Yarraman Progress Association's Yarraman Markets will be held on the vacant block at the corner of the D'Aguilar and New England Highways (ie opposite Bendigo Bank) in Yarraman from 7:00am until around 12:00 noon today. The markets feature trash and treasure stalls, car boot sellers, local produce and hand-made goods, as well as food stalls, and are held weekly. Everyone is welcome and if you'd like to book a stall yourself - it's only $5! - call Joe on (0459) 638-282. Note: All patrons and stallholders are asked to observe proper social distancing to stay safe.
Ash Williamson - Kingaroy
