Federal Election
The Federal election will be held today, and South Burnett voters will need to cast their ballots for the House of Representatives and the Senate (unless they've already voted at a pre-poll station or applied for a postal ballot). Depending on where you live in the region, you'll be voting for a representative in either Maranoa, Flynn or Wide Bay in the House Of Representatives; and wherever you live, you'll also be selecting twelve Queensland Senators to represent Queensland in the upper house. Polling booths will be open at all the usual locations and the first results of the counting can be expected later this evening. Voting is compulsory. You can find your nearest polling booth and other details about this election on our website.
Raising Hell In Maidenwell
The main public day of the three-day Raising Hell In Maidenwell Car Show 'N' Shine camp out weekend will be held at the Maidenwell Sportsgrounds (right next to the Maidenwell Hotel) all day today. This popular event - which is run by the South Burnett Gas Guzzlers to support local charities - features live music; a big Show'n'Shine focussing on hot rods, street machines and pre-1975 customs; and vintage and veteran caravans. Today's activities will kick off at 8:00am for Show & Shine exhibitors, and at 9:00am for the public. There'll be food stalls, raffles, engine blow-ups, a live band and market stalls, along with a free jumping castle, face painting and a colouring competition for the kiddies. In the evening there'll also be a great pig-on-a-spit dinner at the Maidenwell Hotel, an auction, and live entertainment until the wee hours. Everyone is welcome! For more information, contact Terry on 0409-496-167 or Wayne or Veronica on (07) 4162-4784 or email them. Note: You can read what last year's Raising Hell In Maidenwell was like on this page of our website.
Nanango Country Markets
The Nanango Show Society will be holding their regular monthly Country Markets at the Nanango Showgrounds in Cairns Street from 6:00am to around 12:00 noon today. As usual, the markets will feature a wide variety of craft stalls, new and used goods, plants, poultry and pets. The Nanango Markets are the largest rural market in south east Queensland and routinely attract 320 to 420 stallholders. But new stallholders are always very welcome too! More info? Phone the Market Co-Ordinator on (0427) 631-273 during business hours.
RACQ Careflight Enduro Challenge - Boondooma
Manar Park at Boondooma will be holding its 2016 RACQ Careflight Enduro Challenge today (and also tomorrow morning) as a fundraiser for RACQ Careflight, who airlift injured patrons from the Park to hospitals all year round. Competitors in the Challenge will need to complete four different Enduro loops. Tonight there'll also be a gold coin donation big screen slide show of photos taken during the day along with a camp fire sausage sizzle (BYO drinks, chair or blanket and photos), with all proceeds donated to Careflight; and tomorrow morning there'll be a more relaxed Novice Loop Challenge for children, beginners and families. More details can be obtained on Manar Park's website.
Saturday Rugby League - Wondai and Ipswich
Thanks to the school holidays there won't be any junior rugby league this weekend, and there'll only be one local A-grade match too - a clash between the Wondai Wolves and Nanango Stags at the Wondai Sportsgrounds on the Bunya Highway just north of the CBD, which will kick off at 3:00pm and should be a pretty good game. But if you'd like to travel, the Kingaroy Red Ants will be playing the Cherbourg Hornets at Ipswich Reserve at 2:15pm this afternoon prior to an Intrust Super Trust game between Ipswich and the CQ Capras. The Red Ants will be running a bus to this pair of matches - should be a lot of fun! - and you can get a seat by phoning Linda Sonter on 0407-759-649. Canteens will be running at both venues too.
South Burnett Woodcrafters - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Woodcrafters will be holding their regular Saturday morning meeting at their clubhouse, which is located behind the Kingaroy Visitor Information Centre in Haly Street from 8:00am to around mid-day today. The group is for woodworking enthusiasts and new members are always welcome. More details? Phone Lee on (0427) 720-839 or Dick on (0432) 893-050 or visit the website.
Arthur Nettelfield - Kingaroy
Country-rock entertainer Arthur Nettelfield will be performing at the Kingaroy RSL in Markwell Street, Kingaroy from 7:30pm to 11:30pm this evening. Admission is free. More details? Phone the RSL on (07) 4162-1755
Bowls Club Bingo - Kingaroy
The Kingaroy Bowls Club at 141 Youngman St, Kingaroy will be running bingo matches from 7:30pm this evening with over $1000 in prizes on offer. More details from the club on (07) 4162-1404
No Inverlaw Hall Dance
Because of the Federal Election, there will be no Inverlaw Hall dance tonight. Inverlaw dancers take their politics very seriously and will be staying home to watch the results on the Net or TV instead. Dances will resume their normal schedule next month.
