Heritage Bank Nanango Springtime Race Meeting
The Nanango Race Club will be holding their annual Heritage Bank Nanango Springtime Race Meeting at the Lee Park Raceway off the D'Aguilar Highway just south of Nanango from 10:00am to around 5:00pm today - always one of their most colourful meetings of the year. Today's races will have an "Elegant Shades of Green" theme and everyone is encouraged to dress up in their best Springtime outfits to be in the running for some great Moffatdale Ridge Fashions Of The Field prizes. The race club's popular Pink Champagne Bar will be serving up platters all day if you fancy a bite; a licensed bar and BBQ will be operating under the extended covered area; the race club canteen will be open for sit-down dining; children will be well catered for with face-painting and ice creams; and there'll be plenty of bookmakers and an on-course tote available in the betting ring to take your wagers. A lot of people also like to use the Heritage Bank Nanango Springtime Race Meeting for get-togethers and parties, and you're welcome to picnic on the lawns or even bring your own marquee if you like. This will be a 5-race meeting and buses will be running to the races from Kingaroy's Glendon Street Bus Depot (12:00 noon) and the Nanango RSL at 12:30pm. The meeting usually gets into full swing around 1:00pm but gates will open at the track at 10:00am so go-getters can get a head start on that all-important socialising. Admission is just $10 for adults and $5 for pensioners (under-15s are free). Everyone is welcome! More details? Phone Rosemary on (07) 4163-2346 or email her.
Tanduringie State School Centenary Celebrations
Tanduringie State School at 32 Tanduringie School Road in Maidenwell will be holding its Centenary Celebrations today. The day will kick off at 8:30am with registrations for early-birds. Tea, coffee, sandwiches and home-baked goodies will be available for breakfast and Jen’s Party Supplies will begin running children’s activities to keep youngsters amused. A drink stall will open at 9:00am, and current students will come together for a school performance at 10:30am. Then at 11:00am – with lunch time looming – a barbecue and hot chips stall will spring into life, and there’ll be face painting for children to add to the festive mood. The main ceremonies of the day will commence at 1:00pm with a formal welcome, speeches, the cutting of the Centenary cake, a roll call and class photos. Then at 3:00pm, the bar will open and popular performer Arthur Nettelfield will entertain the crowds with country-rock. Throughout the day there’ll be class tours with classroom displays to inspect, and also periodic personally-guided bus tours of the current school route. Souvenirs and a specially printed Commemorative Magazine will be available from the souvenir tent, and guests will also be able to sign off on the attendance register wall and catch up with past students and teachers, or order special personally-engraved pavers that will be laid into a Centenary Pathway as a permanent reminder of the event. You can read more about today's celebrations on our website
Agatha Christie's Verdict - Nanango
The Nanango Theatre Company will be presenting the second perfomance of Agatha Christie's 1958 murder mystery "Verdict" at the Nanango Playhouse at the corner of Elk and George Streets in Nanango at 7:00pm tonight (play begins at 7:30pm). The NTC's latest production tells the story of Karl Hendryk, a brilliant professor who has fled persecution in his country with his wife and her cousin. He is safely ensconced in a British university where he is respected by students and faculty alike. But his wife Anya, an invalid suffering from a progressively debilitating disease, bitterly regrets having been forced to leave her home and her friends and is unhappy with all aspects of her life in England. Her cousin, Lisa Koletzky, has moved with them to care for Anya and to manage the professor's home. Karl and Lisa have suppressed feelings for each other, and the situation is further disturbed when a rich young student, Helen Rollander, begins taking private lessons with the professor. Tickets - which include supper at intermission - are $20 for adults and $15 for pensioners or students. They can be purchased in advance from the Nanango Visitor Information Centre in Henry Street, Nanango, or at the door before each performance, if not sold out. Note: two additional performances will be held at the same time and venue next Friday and Saturday night.
