South Burnett CTC - Working For Our Community
Boondooma Homestead Open Day
Historic Boondooma Homestead on the Durong-Mundubbera Road at Boondooma will be holding an Open Day from 9:00am this morning to 4:00pm this afternoon. The event will feature market stalls and live open mic music all day, along with history tours that will take place throughout the day and provide unique insights into this early pioneer property. This will be a COVID-Safe get-together and morning teas and light lunches will be on sale. There'll also be $5 unpowered campsites available if you want to stay over. Everyone is welcome! Murgon Men's Shed
The Murgon Men's Shed will be holding a meeting at their shed in Macalister Street, Murgon (the shed next to the former Murgon Railway Station) today. The Men's Shed meets every Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday to work on projects and new members are always welcome.
Aero Modellers Fly-In - Kingaroy
The Kingaroy Aero Modellers Society will be holding the first day of their two-day Model Aero Fly-In at the KAMS flying field at 844 Booie-Crawford Road, Booie from 8:30am until late this afternoon. KAMS members fly model aeroplanes of all types, and this weekend's get-together will be drawing fellow modellers from all over south-east Queensland. Visitors can "have a go" for $5 with donations going towards the Leukaemia Foundation. Admission is free but COVID-19 restrictions apply. More details? Phone John on 0408-879-286.
Proston Men's Shed
The Proston Men's Shed will be meeting at the old railway station building at Railway Park in Rodney Street, Proston for its regular Saturday morning get-together today, kicking off with a cuppa at 8:00am. Friendship Community Markets
The third Saturday of the month Friendship Community Markets will be running at the River Road end of the Kingaroy Showgrounds in Youngman Street, Kingaroy from 7:00am to around 12:00 noon this morning. The markets are run by the South Burnett Show Society and feature a great range of arts, crafts, fruit and garden stalls, plus unusual bric-a-brac. New stallholders are always very welcome! Pumpkin Festival Pop-Up Craft Workshop - Goomeri
Goomeri's Pumpkin Festival will be running a Pop Up Craft Workshop at their shop in Moore Street, Goomeri from 9:30am this morning. For just $5 (to cover the cost of materials, tea and coffee) participants will learn three different ways to make crafty pumpkins. You should BYO morning tea and/or lunch as well.
Drive-In Movie Night - Kingaroy
Taabinga State School P&C will be holding a Drive-In Movie Night at the Kingaroy Machinery Club's grounds at Geoff Raph Drive near Kingaroy Airport from 5:00pm this evening. The event will screen Angry Birds (rated PG) at 6:30pm, followed by the 1980s classic comedy Ghostbusters (rated PG) at 9:00pm. Family admission - with up to six people per car - is just $35 per car for either movie, and tickets must be booked online in advance before 4:00pm Saturday. This is a COVID Safe event and munchies can be pre-ordered when you book your tickets, too. Everyone is welcome!
Wondai Races
The South Burnett Race Club will be holding its annual Caulfield Cup Race Meeting at the Wondai Showgrounds this afternoon. However - due to the pandemic - the meeting will be patron free and restricted to essential racing personnel only.
Saturday Cricket
The South Burnett's cricketers will be out in force today, playing in Kingaroy, Murgon and Wondai. In A Grade, Southern District Devils will play the Gympie Colts at Lyle Vidler Oval in Youngman Street, Kingaroy at 2:00pm. In B Grade, Wondai will play Kingaroy Services at the Wondai Sportsgrounds from 12:30pm; the Wooroolin Warriors will play Cherbourg at Kingaroy State School at 12:30pm; and Murgon Diggers will play Nanango's Scorpions at the Murgon Sportsgrounds, also at 12:30pm (Kumbia has the bye). Finally - in Juniors - Murgon Districts will play Kingaroy Burnett Water at the Murgon Sportsgrounds in Macalister Street at 8:00am in the Stage 3 competition; and in the Stage 2 competition, Kingaroy Northern Agriservices will play Kingaroy Burnett Water at Kingaroy State School, also at 8:00am. Spectators are welcome at all matches but must observe proper social distancing.
Kingaroy Speedway
The South Burnett Speedway will roar back into life at the Kingaroy Showgrounds in Youngman Street, Kingaroy tonight with its first meeting of the season. The meeting will feature Modified Sedans, Production Sedans, Street Stocks, National 4s and Junior Sedans, and some top drivers will be coming to Kingaroy to compete. There'll also be canteen facilities operating onsite. Gates will open at 2:00pm, racing will start at 5:00pm and the excitement will continue until around 10:30pm tonight. Admission is $25 for adults, $15 for students (with ID) and aged or disability pensioners or $65 for a family of two adults and up to three students (children 12 and under are free). Everyone is welcome! Note: This event is being run under COVID Safe conditions so some restrictions will apply.
