South Burnett CTC - Working For Our Community
South Burnett Speedway - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Speedway Club will be holding their Spring Spectacular race meeting at Kingaroy Showgrounds in Youngman Street from 2:00pm this afternoon (when gates open) until late tonight. The feature race of tonight's meeting will be Round 2 of the Edge Automotive & Performance Street Stocks Series, but there'll also be fierce competitions between V8 Dirt Modifieds, Modified Sedans, Production Sedans and Junior Sedans for a full night of adrenaline-fuelled action. Racing will start at 4:00pm and entry is $25 for adults and $15 for pensioners and students (with school ID). Children 12 and under are free, and family passes (two adults and three students) are $65. A canteen will also be running at the track. Family Fun Golf Day - Proston
The Proston District Golf Club on the Proston-Boondooma Road west of town will be holding a Family Fun Golf Day from 9:00am this morning to help raise funds for breast cancer research. Activities will kick off with a 9 hole, 3 person ambrose for serious golfers at 9:00am followed by a BBQ lunch for $25 per player. In the afternoon, this will be followed at 1:00pm with a 9-hole social golf round for people of any golfing ability, and then a great pig-on-a-spit dinner, also for $25 per player (or you do both golf games plus the lunch and dinner for a bargain $35). During the day there'll also be chipping and putting competitions and raffles, and some great auction items up for bids including a HP notebook and case, and two night holidays at the Bunya Mountains and Toowoomba. Hivesville QCWA Mini Cent Auction
The Hivesville QCWA will be holding their annual Mini Cent Auction at the Hivesville QCWA Rooms on the Wondai-Proston Road at Hivesville at 1:00pm to around 3:00pm today - just perfect if you're looking for a relaxing afternoon of fun. The auction will feature home-made, home-grown and baked items along with a guest speaker, plants for sale, a raffle and a great afternoon tea. You can pre-purchase tickets by phoning Shelley on 0427-682-709, but they'll also be available on-site today. Everyone is welcome!
Kingaroy Bowls Club Bingo
The Kingaroy Bowls Club at 141 Youngman St, Kingaroy will be running bingo matches from 7:30pm this evening with over $1000 in prizes on offer. More details from the club on (07) 4162-1404
Byte Nite - Murgon
The South Burnett PCYC in Macalister Street, Murgon will be hosting a Byte Nite from 7:00pm to around 11:00pm tonight for Murgon and Cherbourg youngsters. Children can play a range of fun and entertaining games and pursue other amusements for free during the course of the night, as well as get a free meal and a ride home afterwards if they need one, all under the supervision of caring local volunteers. Byte Nite is an initiative of the PCYC and Murgon Business and Development Association to tackle youth crime in the district by giving youngsters something to do on a Saturday night, and anyone who'd like to volunteer to help this community-driven initiative in any way should contact Sgt Rene Bond at the PCYC on (07) 4168-1889 for more information.
Wondai Parkrun
The Wondai parkrun group will be holding their 150th weekly 5km timed run at Coronation Park in Wondai at 7:00am this morning. Runners follow a course along the South Burnett Rail Trail and the parkrun group is free to join. All you need to do is register (once) online at parkrun.com.au and bring the printed barcode to any parkrun event. More details? Send an email.
Nanango Parkrun
CANCELLED: The newly-formed Nanango parkrun group will be holding its weekly 5km timed walk/run along the Ros Gregor Trail at Tipperary Flat next to the D'Aguilar Highway south of Nanango at 7:00am this morning. Runners follow a course along the trail and the parkrun group is free to join. All you need to do is register (once) online at parkrun.com.au and bring the printed barcode to any parkrun event. Note: Today's meeting has been cancelled due to heavy smoke in the area from recent bushfires. Runs will be held as normal next Saturday.
Mr Q & The Party Rockers - Kingaroy
Popular South Burnett party band Mr Q have just returned from their latest southern tour, and they'll be laying down their incredible mix of good time rock & roll at the Commercial Hotel at the corner of Glendon and Haly Streets in Kingaroy from 8:30pm until late tonight. Proston Men's Shed
The Proston Men's Shed will be meeting at the old railway station building at Railway Park in Rodney Street, Proston for its regular Saturday morning meeting today, kicking off with a cuppa at 9:00am. Kingaroy Friendship Markets
The third Saturday of the month Friendship Markets will be held at the River Road end of the Kingaroy Showgrounds in Youngman Street, Kingaroy from 7:00am to around 12:00pm today. The markets are jointly run by the Kingaroy Rotary Club and Kingaroy Show Society and feature a great range of arts, crafts, fruit and gvarden stalls, plus unusual bric-a-brac. Backroad At The Palace - Nanango
Local group "Backroad" will be performing at the Palace Hotel in Drayton Street, Nanango from 7:30pm until late tonight. Members of the group have performed with (or opened for) bands as diverse as AC/DC, Billy Thorpe and the Aztecs, Little River Band, Ganggajang, Troy Casser-Daly, Robbie Porter, Al Stewart and others, so they're well worth seeing. Dance Concert - Nanango
The La Creme Dance Academy will be hosting Aerial and Flying High at their studio at in 28 Kimlin Street, Nanango at 6:30pm tonight (doors open at 6:00pm) in La Creme's first-ever Aerial and Dance Showcase. Dancers will perform both silks and lyra aerial acrobatics, creating mesmerising poses in the air and displaying incredible amounts of strength and flexibility. There will also be performances by some of LCDA's Eisteddfod dancers and past students. Everyone is welcome along, and tickets to see the show are $10 (under-3s are free). They can be booked online.
Murgon Men's Shed
The Murgon Men's Shed will be holding a meeting at their shed in Macalister Street, Murgon (the former Murgon Railway Station) today. The Men's Shed meets every Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday to work on projects and new members are always welcome.
Moore Hall Markets
The monthly Moore Hall Markets will be held outside Moore Soldiers Memorial Hall on the D'Aguilar Highway at Moore from 6:30am to around noon today. The markets feature arts, crafts and bric-a-brac and the nearby Kai Lounge will be open for morning teas and lunches.
Wondai Wolves Rugby League Club Meeting
The Wondai Wolves Rugby League Club will be holding a meeting at their clubhouse inside the Wondai Sportsgrounds on The Bunya Highway north of the CBD from 9:30am to 11:30am this morning. The Wolves are short of volunteers to fulfil a number of important roles in the club next season and anyone who can assist would be very welcome.
Saturday Morning Tennis - Blackbutt
The Blackbutt Tennis Club in Hart Street, Blackbutt (just up the road from the Radnor Hotel) will be running social tennis games from 8:00am this morning. New players are always welcome.
Miss Leading - Murgon
Popular Sunshine Coast cover and party band Miss Leading - featuring the vocals of Sonia McMahon, sax from Phil Nye, bass from Rob Karni, plus the smooth Phil Butterworth on lead guitar and vocals and Dave Hall on drums - will be performing at the Royal Hotel at the corner of Lamb and Gore Streets, Murgon from 7:00pm tonight. Saturday Cricket
Round 6 of the South Burnett's 2019-20 cricket competition will get underway at four venues across the region at 12:30pm today. In Kingaroy, Southern Districts Devils will play the Murgon Diggers at Lyle Vidler Oval in Youngman Street, Kingaroy; in Murgon, Cherbourg will play the Kallindale Warriors at Murgon State High School; in Blackbutt, Blackbutt will play Kingaroy Services at the Blackbutt cricket fields; and in Wondai, Wondai will play the Nanango Scorpions at the Wondai Sportsgrounds. Canteens will be operating at some venues and spectators are very welcome. Meanwhile, in A Grade, Murgon will be playing away at Gympie.
Robert Early - Kingaroy
Entertainer Robert Early will be performing at the Kingaroy RSL in Markwell Street, Kingaroy from 7:00pm to around 11:00pm tonight. Admission is free. More details from the RSL on (07) 4162-1755.
Full Sircle - Blackbutt
Acoustic duo Full Sircle will be performing at the Scrubby Creek Bar next to the Bunyanut Cafe in Coulson Street, Blackbutt from 6:00pm to 10:00pm this evening.
