South Burnett CTC - Working For Our Community
Wondai Races Caulfield Cup Meeting
The South Burnett Race Club will be holding its annual Wondai Races Caulfield Cup Meeting meeting at the Wondai race track in Baynes Street, Wondai from around 11:30am today, and one highlight will be the annual running of the Roy & Glennis Radunz Wondai Cup (another will be the chance to see the latest progress on the race club's upgrade). The theme of today's meeting is "Spring Florals" and guests are encouraged to dress to this theme to be in the running for great prizes in the Fashions Of The Field competition. As usual, the meeting will feature an on-course TAB; live telecasts of Brisbane and interstate races (along with interstate betting fluctuations); a vigorous undercover betting ring; and a great BBQ and bar. The always popular Lady Luck Cocktail Bar will be in full swing, too, along with the track's canteen. Today's meeting will feature a full card of five races and entry to the track is just $10. Wondai's Caulfield Cup meeting is always the South Burnett Race Club's biggest meeting of the year and everyone is welcome! More details? Phone the race club on (07) 4168-5530.
South Burnett Speedway - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Speedway will roar back into life at the Kingaroy Showgrounds in Youngman Street, Kingaroy tonight with its first meeting of the season. The meeting will feature Modified Sedans, Production Sedans, Street Stocks, Junior Sedans and Lightning Sprints, and some top drivers will be coming to Kingaroy to compete. There'll also be canteen facilities operating onsite. Gates will open at 11:00am, racing will start at 5:00pm and the excitement will continue until around 10:30pm tonight. Admission is $30 for adults, $25 for students (with ID), $15 for aged or disability pensioners or $75 for a family of two adults and two students (children 12 and under are free). Everyone is welcome! Note: This event is being run under COVID Safe conditions so some restrictions will apply.
Pink Up Trivia Night - Murgon
A Pink Up Trivia Night fundraiser for the McGrath Foundation's South Burnett breast care nurse Sue Cox will be held at Murgon's Royal Hotel in Lamb Street from 6:00pm until late tonight. Guests are encouraged to dress up in their best pink outfits - the crazier the better! - for a night of fun and laughter. Game fees are just $25 per person and there will be great prizes, raffles, a DJ and food. Everyone is welcome!
Nanango Playfest
SOLD OUT: The Nanango Theatre Company will be presenting three one-act plays at their playhouse at the corner of Elk and George Streets, Nanango at 7:00pm tonight: Roanoke by Mark Lucas from Caboolture; Refuge by BJ Edwards from Toowoomba; and The Dreaming by Richard James. Tickets are $20 for adults or $15 for concessions and are strictly limited. You can obtain yours by phoning the NTC on 0407-631-611 or by booking online. Note: The NTC announced this performance was booked out on Thursday, October 14.
Kingaroy Friendship Markets
The third Saturday of the month Friendship Markets will be held at Kingaroy Showgrounds in Youngman Street, Kingaroy from 7:00am to around 12:00pm today. The markets are jointly run by the Kingaroy Show Society and feature a great range of arts, crafts, fruit and garden stalls, plus unusual bric-a-brac. New stallholders are always very welcome! Saturday Cricket - Kingaroy and Murgon
There's another big Saturday of cricket today with Gympie A-Grade, South Burnett Seniors and South Burnett Juniors matches all in action. In Round 6 of the Gympie A-Grade Competition, Murgon Crusaders will play Wooroolin Warriors at Murgon Showgrounds' Number 1 oval in Macalister Street, Murgon at noon. And in the second round of the South Burnett Seniors competition, Wooroolin Vikings will play Kingaroy Services at Lyle Vidler Oval in Youngman Street, Kingaroy; Cherbourg wil play Wooroolin Colts at Murgon State High School; and Murgon will play Wondai at Murgon Showgrounds' #2 oval (all matches start at 12:30pm). Finally, in Juniors, Kingaroy Westlink will play Kingaroy Wamuran Timbers in Stage 2 at the River Road pitch in Kingaroy; and in Stage 3, Kingaroy Vikings will play Nanango at Murgon Showgrounds (all juniors matches start at 8:00am). Nanango has the bye in both the Stage 2 and Seniors competitions this week.
Ranch Sorting - Proston
The Hivesville & District Recreation Association will be holding the first day of a two-day Ranch Sorting Come & Try Weekend at the Proston Showgrounds on the Proston-Boondooma Road from early this morning until late this afternoon. There'll be 3 classes each day (Beginner Youths, Beginner Non-Handicap and All Levels) and all riders will need to be RSNCA members and abide by RSNCA rules to take part. A canteen will be in operation for drinks and snacks all day, and tonight a bar and meals will be available as well. Plenty of camping is also available nearby for everyone who wants to stay over. The event is 100% free for spectators - riders pay fees for sorting runs - and everyone is welcome!
Seafood Buffet - Wondai
Dimities Cottage at 49 Haly Street in Wondai will be running another of incredibly popular all-you-can-eat Seafood Buffets from 6:30pm this evening. The buffet features all your favourite hot and cold seafoods fresh from the trawlers, as well as non-seafood dishes, desserts, tea and coffee. Murgon Men's Shed
The Murgon Men's Shed will be holding a meeting at their shed in Macalister Street, Murgon (the shed next to the former Murgon Railway Station) today. The Men's Shed meets every Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday to work on projects and new members are always welcome.
Rob Thompson Memorial Golf Day - Proston
The Proston Golf Club on the Proston-Boondooma Road will be holding their annual Rob Thompson Memorial Golf Day today. There'll be two competitions on offer - a 9-hole individual stroke with an 8:45am shotgun start, and a 9-hole three person ambrose in the afternoon with a shotgun start at 12:45pm. Green fees are $20 for one competition plus a meal (BBQ lunch or dinner); or $25 for both competitions and both meals. Moore Hall Markets
The monthly Moore Hall Markets will be held in the grounds surrounding the Soldiers Hall just off the D'Aguilar Highway in Moore's CBD from 6:30am to around noon this morning. The markets are held on the third Saturday of each month and new stallholders are always welcome.
Wondai Parkrun
The Wondai parkrun group will be holding their weekly 5km timed runs at Coronation Park in Wondai at 7:00am this morning. Runners follow a course along the South Burnett Rail Trail and the parkrun group is free to join. Railway Parkrun Official Opening - Proston
The Proston parkrun group will be holding its weekly 5km timed walk/run at Railway Park in Rodney Street, Proston at 7:00am this morning. Today's parkrun will also be the new group's official opening and all participants are encouraged to dress up in pink or wear something pink to be part of this month's "Pink Up Proston" effort. Runners follow a course along the former railway line and the parkrun group is free to join. All you need to do is register (once) online at parkrun.com.au and bring the printed barcode to any parkrun event.
Dusty Day Out - Moffatdale
SOLD OUT: The 8th annual Dusty Day Out will be held at Dusty Hill Vineyard in Moffatdale from noon to midnight tonight. This event - which is strictly limited to 400 guests - usually features half a dozen bands and solo performers and this year's lineup has yet to be announced. There'll also be free overnight camping on the grounds (no power or other facilities) but no pets or BYO are allowed. Tickets are $80 per head and can be booked on Eventbrite. Note: As at Monday, October 11 this event was sold out.
Yarraman Markets
The Yarraman Progress Association's Yarraman Markets will be held on the vacant block at the corner of the D'Aguilar and New England Highways (ie opposite Bendigo Bank) in Yarraman from 7:00am until around 12:00 noon today. The markets feature trash and treasure stalls, car boot sellers, local produce and hand-made goods, as well as food stalls, and are held weekly. Everyone is welcome and if you'd like to book a stall yourself - it's only $5! - call Joe on (0459) 638-282. Note: All patrons and stallholders are asked to observe proper social distancing to stay safe.
