South Burnett CTC - Working For Our Community
81st Annual Blackbutt Show
The 81st annual Blackbutt Show will be held at the Blackbutt Showgrounds in Hart Street, Blackbutt from 8:00am this morning until late tonight. This year's Show will feature a full range of horse events (anything from led breed and ridden breed through to hacks and rider classes). There'll also be a big roll-up of stud cattle and poultry; the popular woodchop and chainsawing competitions; lots of ring events; a Dog Show; a miniature goat section; a Ute Muster; and plenty of fun for children including face painting, circus games and piglet racing. As usual the Show will also feature a great spread of pavilion exhibits; sideshow alley; showbags; and trade displays. After dark there'll also be Circus Spectacular in the main arena and a great Fireworks display, followed by live entertainment from popular entertainer Neil Duddy from 8:00pm until midnight. The Show's Grand Parade will occur at 1:00pm and it will be officially opened at 1:15pm by a surprise guest. Admission this year is still just $10.00 for adults or $5.00 for concessions (children under 12 are admitted free). More details? Friendship Markets - Kingaroy
The third Saturday of the month Friendship Markets will be held at the Senior Citizens Centre in Avoca Street, Kingaroy from 6:30am to around 12:00pm today. Super Cent Auction - Nanango
The Heritage Nanango Funfest Committee will be holding a Super Cent Auction at the Nanango Cultural Centre in George Street, Nanango at 9:00am this morning (auction starts at 9:30am sharp). The slim $5 admission includes two sheets of tickets and a great morning tea, and extra sheets of tickets will be available for $2 each. All proceeds will go towards this year's New Years Eve Mardi Gras Spectacular at the Nanango Showgrounds. Cent Auction tickets can be obtained from May 1st at the Winds Of Change Art Gallery in George Street - just opposite the Cultural Centre - but they'll also be available at the door today. Everyone is welcome!
Feral Animal Trapping Workshop - Murgon
Professional trapper will be holding a feral animal trapping workshop at Carney’s Feed Store at 125 Lamb Street in Murgon from 12:00 noon to 4:00pm today. The afternoon is being supported by Landcare South East Burnett and will target wild dogs, feral cats and foxes. There is no charge to attend Cost and a barbecue lunch will be available. Two One Act Plays - Nanango
The Nanango Theatre Company will be presenting the second perfomance of "Two One Act Plays" at the Nanango Playhouse at the corner of Elk and George Streets in Nanango at 7:00pm tonight (plays begin at 7:30pm). The NTC's latest production features a drama ("The Knock At The Door") and a comedy ("Stroke") and tickets - which include supper at intermission - are $20 for adults and $15 for pensioners or students. They can be purchased in advance from the Nanango Visitor Information Centre in Henry Street, Nanango, or at the door before each performance, if not sold out. Saturday Afternoon Judo
The Murgon Judo Club will be holding its regular Saturday afternoon training session at the Salvation Army Hall in Macalister Street, Murgon today. Charity Auction - Kingaroy
Pathway 2 Hope and Boots'n Bulldust Ltd will be hosting a Charity Auction at Kingaroy Town Hall in Glendon Street, Kingaroy at 2:00pm this afternoon. The auction is a fundraiser to help support local people living with depression or mental illness, or those at risk of suicide, and it will be offering a large variety of new and used items including an upright stove, retro lounge, sofa bed, coffee machine, cookbooks, throw rugs, gift sets, steam mops, desks, hay bales, vouchers valued at up to $300 and lots, lots more. Saturday Soccer
The sixth round of the 2015 South Burnett Evolution Solar Football League competition will be played in Nanango and Kingaroy this afternoon. In Nanango, home team Panthers will play Gunners at the Nanango soccer fields in Burnett Street, with 2nd Division hitting the park at 12:30pm; Women's Division at 2:00pm and 1st Division at 3:15pm. And in Kingaroy, Wests will play the Barambah, with 2nd Division kicking off at 2:00pm, Women's Division playing at 3:30pm and 1st Division at 5:00pm. A bar and canteen will be running at both venues, admission is free and spectators are very welcome! And in Junior Soccer, games will be held at the Wondai Soccer Fields off the Bunya Highway north of Wondai's CBD.
Saturday Rugby League - Murgon
The second round of the South Burnett Rugby League's 2015 competition wil be played at the Murgon Showgrounds in Macalister Street, Murgon this afternoon. In A grade, at 3:30pm, the Kingaroy Red Ants will take on the Wondai Wolves in a game that will draw a lot of interest as both teams begin flexing their muscles for the season to come; and they'll be followed at 5:00pm by a clash between the Murgon Mustangs and last year's premiers, the seemingly unbeatable Cherbourg Hornets in what could well prove to be a clash of the titans. A bar and canteen will be operating at the grounds and a great afternoon and evening of league is guaranteed. Meanwhile, in junior league, the U6s to U16s Red Ants will be playing against visitors from Pittsworth at Stags Oval off the D'Aguilar Highway south of Nanango, with matches kicking off around 8:00am. Spectators and supporters are very welcome!
South Burnett Woodcrafters - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Woodcrafters will be holding their regular Saturday morning meeting at their clubhouse, which is located behind the Kingaroy Visitor Information Centre in Haly Street from 8:00am to around mid-day today. Seafood Smorgasbord - Wondai
Dimities Cottage at 49 Haly Street, Wondai will be holding another of their popular monthly all-you-can-eat Seafood Buffets from 6:30pm this evening (dinner starts at 7:00pm). QCWA Girls Craft Group - Kingaroy
The QCWA Girls' Craft Group will be holding their regular third Saturday of the month meeting at the QCWA Rooms in Kingaroy Street, Kingaroy (just next to the RSL) from 1:00pm to 4:00pm this afternoon. The group is for girls aged 10 years and older, who can learn useful crafts and home skills such as sewing, knitting, crochet, cooking, healthy eating, catering and presentation under the supervision of QCWA ladies and a supervisor. There's a small $2 meeting charge to cover the cost of goods used, but all young girls are very welcome.
