Caulfield Cup Race Meeting - Wondai
The South Burnett Race Club will be holding their annual Caulfield Cup Race Meeting (always one of their biggest meetings of the year) at the Wondai race track today. Today's meeting will have a "Colours Of Spring" theme for the Fashions Of The Field competition (for men, ladies and couples) and the winning lay will receive a beautiful watch, courtesy of Cedric Duff. Another highlight of today's meeting will be a cheque presentation to Legacy of the proceeds of the club's incredibly popular Anzac Day Races. As usual, the meeting will also feature an on-course TAB; live telecasts of interstate races and interstate betting fluctuations; a vigorous undercover betting ring; a great BBQ and bar; the Lady Luck Cocktail Bar; and a solid card of five races that will offer plenty of wagering opportunities, along with a stylish Fashion Parade. The first race will leave the barriers at 1:40pm and everyone is welcome! You can also read more about what last year's Caulfield Cup race meeting was like and see pictures on our website.
Friendship Markets - Kingaroy
The third Saturday of the month Friendship Markets will be held at the Cheers Triangle end of the Kingaroy Showgrounds in Youngman Street, Kingaroy from 7:00am to around 12:00pm today. The Kingaroy Rotary Club and Kingaroy Show Society are now running the markets - which feature an array of arts, crafts, fruit and flower stalls - and they've relocated from the Senior Citizens Centre to the Showgrounds so the markets can keep expanding. New stallholders are always very welcome! More details? Phone Patrick on 0419-648-754.
Waterhole Rocks Festival - Nanango
The second (and main) day of the four-day Waterhole Rocks rock 'n' roll campout weekend will roar into life at the Nanango Showgrounds from early this morning and continue on until late tonight. The festival is devoted to all things associated with 1950s and 1960s rock 'n' roll. This includes hot rods, custom cars, vintage caravans, driving games and dance lessons, all backed up by red hot rock 'n' roll acts. Today the South Burnett's very own Elvis Jeff Hancox and Heartbeat will be performing throughout the day. There'll also be competitions, trade stalls, dance lessons, grass driving out on the main show ring and lots of fun to be had before things step up a notch at 6:30pm with rock & roll band Old 45s playing until late - just perfect if you're looking for a rock & roll Saturday night out, complete with dancing on the Festival's special rock 'n' roll dance floor! A bar and canteen will be operating too, and admission today is $20 (or you can buy a full weekend pass for $25). Powered and unpowered campsites will be available at the Showgrounds for a nominal amount per night too, if you want to bunk down in the grounds. Everyone is welcome and the Festival will rock on right through until late Sunday afternoon. More details? Phone the Nanango Show Society on (07) 4163-1273 or Terry on (07) 4163-1999 or 0409-496-167. You can also read more about what last year's Waterhole Rocks was like and see photos on our website.
Blackbutt Community Dinner-Dance
A special Community Dinner Dance will be held at the Blackbutt Showgrounds in Bowman Road, Blackbutt from 5:30pm until late this evening as a final fundraiser for the soon-to-be unveiled Roy Emerson statue. For $25 per head, guests can enjoy a main of pig on a spit or lamb and vegetables, followed by dessert, tea and coffee; live entertainment by the South Burnett's favourite indigenous dance band Muddy Flats; a licensed bar; and a talk by special guest speaker, former Australian tennis star Daphne Fancutt. Former Lord Mayor of Brisbane Sallyanne Atkinson will be the evening's Master of Ceremonies, and there'll also be an auction of celebrity memorabilia. Proceeds from the dance will be used to help fund a plinth for the statue and everyone is welcome along to what promises to be a really great night out! Tickets can be obtained from the Nukku Nook Museum at the end of Hart Street between 10:00am and 2:00pm daily, or by phoning them on 0408-517-399.
