Nanango Races Valentine's Day Meeting
The Nanango Race Club will be holding their annual Valentine's Day Race Meeting at the Lee Park Raceway off the D'Aguilar Highway just south of Nanango from 10:00am to around 5:00pm today - one day ahead of Valentines Day because country racing always leads the way. Today's races will have a "Pandemonium Pink" theme and everyone is encouraged to dress up in their best pink outfits and/or accessories to be in the running for some great Moffatdale Ridge Fashions Of The Field prizes. The race club's popular Pink Champagne Bar will be serving up platters all day if you fancy a bite; a licensed bar and BBQ will be operating under the extended covered area; the race club canteen will be open for sit-down dining; children will be well catered for with face-painting and ice creams; and there'll be plenty of bookmakers and an on-course tote available in the betting ring to take your wagers. Patrons can also enter a competition to win a romantic Valentine's Day dinner for two to the value of $70 at the Copper Country Motel and Restaurant. A lot of people like to use the February meeting for relaxed summertime get-togethers, and you're welcome to picnic on the lawns or even bring your own marquee if you like. This will be a 5-race meeting and buses will be running to the races from Kingaroy's Glendon Street Bus Depot (12:00 noon) and the Nanango RSL at 12:30pm. The meeting usually gets into full swing around 1:00pm but gates will open at 10:00am so go-getters can get a head start on that all-important socialising. Admission is just $10 for adults and $5 for pensioners (under-15s are free). Everyone is welcome! More details? Phone Rosemary on (07) 4163-2346 or email her.
8th Annual Reef & Beef Extravaganza - Ironpot
The 8th annual Reef & Beef Extravaganza will be held at Ironpot Hall in Ironpot from 5:30pm onwards this evening. This all-you-can-eat event will offer guests as many prawns, oysters, Moreton Bay bugs, scallops, whole cooked Red Emperor and pan-fried reef fish fillets, rib steaks and BBQ rib fillet steaks as they can pack in, along with salads, vegies and dessert. There'll also be a licensed bar operating too - so no BYO - plus live entertainment from several local performers. It's been a year since Ironpot last digested a Reef & Beef Night but it'll be a fantastic event (as it always is). And if you'd rather be driven than drive the 55km from town, there'll be a bus running from Kingaroy's Glendon Street bus depot at 4:30pm for a small extra $5 fee. Reef & Beef tickets are $70 per head for adults, $45 for high school students and $20 for primary school students and you can book them by phoning Sonya on 0428-648-142 or Hook on 0428-648-244, or by emailing them. Be quick, though! Numbers for this popular community fund-raiser have risen every year (from 140 in 2009 to more than 300 last year) and places are limited. You can also read more about what last year's Reef & Beef was like - and see pictures - on our website.
2016 Boondooma Dam Yellowbelly Fishing Competition
The 26th annual Boondooma Dam Yellowbelly Fishing Competition will be held at Boondooma Dam this weekend, commencing at 5:00am this morning and concluding at around lunchtime tomorrow. The event - organised by the Boondooma Dam Fish Stocking Association in conjunction with a bevy of sponsors - will have adult and junior sections and numerous cash prizes for each weigh-in period. A licensed bar, BBQ and food and drink stalls will be operating for the duration and accommodation for competitors is available at the adjoining Lake Boondooma Tourist Park. Competition entry fees are $20 for adults and $5 for children and all competitors will need to have a Stocked Impoundment Permit to take part. Last year hundreds of keen anglers wet their lines for a share of the $4,500 prize-monies and large numbers of an campers packed the dam's camping grounds. This year organisers expect similar numbers or higher. More details and/or nominations? Phone John on (0427) 112-477 or send him an email. Want on-site accommodation? Then phone the Lake Boondooma Tourist Park on (07) 4168-9694 or email them.
