Moffatdale Ridge Italian Festival
Moffatdale Ridge Winery on Barambah Road at Moffatdale will be holding their first ever all day Italian Festival in their grounds and cellar door cafe from 9:30am onwards today. Popular Italian entertainer Fortunato Isgro, opera sensation Simone Nicole and South Burnett sax legend Tom McKenzie will all be performing during the course of the day and there'll also be classic Italian car displays in the grounds; bocce games on the lawns; a salami wheel; Italian cooking demonstrations; amazing traditional Italian foods; and dancing and fun for the whole family. The full range of Moffatdale Ridge wines will be available along with premium Italian beers, and admission is just $10 per head (and if you pre-book, you'll go into the draw to win a weekend for two at Hervey Bay's Peppers Resort). Paddle 4 Fun - Wooroolin
Here's something different! The Wooroolin Lions Club will be running "Paddle 4 Fun" day at the Wooroolin Sportsgrounds and the adjoining Wooroolin Wetlands from 10:00am to around 3:00pm as a fundraiser for their community projects. Competitors purchase a rubber duck for $10, then paddle their way around a wetland course, collecting stickers at the five designated checkpoints. Competitors who'd rather boat it than paddle can use any non-powered water vessel to get around the course (BYO water vessel), and can enter in teams or as singles. Children under the age of 15 must be accompanied by an adult, but you can purchase as many ducks as you like. There'll be a $500 first prize on offer, plus multiple draws of $50, and food and drink also be available to purchase if you get hungry or thirsty. Pig Races - Wondai
Here's something different! The Warana Hotel in Mackenzie Street, Wondai will be holding Pig Races from 10:00am onwards today as part of this year's mammoth fundraising efforts by the hotel's U.G.L.Y. (“Understanding, Likeable, Generous You”) bartenders for the Leukaemia Foundation. Calcuttas will be run all day, too, and there's some great prize money to be won. Orana Hilltop Markets - Kingaroy
The Orana Lutheran Complex at MacDiarmid Street in Kingaroy will be holding their Orana Hilltop Markets from 7:00am to 12:00 noon today in the Complex's grounds. The markets will feature a wide range of stalls selling anything from local produce and beverages through to home decor items, clothing, giftware, gardening supplies and bric-a-brac. Sunpork & Swickers Annual Golf Day - Kingaroy
The Sunpork & Swickers Annual Golf Day - a fun 3 person ambrose for golfers and non-golfers alike - will be held at the Kingaroy Golf Club on the Bunya Highway south-west of the CBD today. Registration is at 9:30am for a shotgun start at 10:00am and the cost - which includes a BBQ lunch - is just $20 per head. Male non-golfers will get a handicap of 20 and female non-golfers will get a handicap of 30 to ensure they have a fair and equal chance at the prize pool, and there are lots (and lots) of prizes to be won. Yarraman Markets
The Yarraman Progress Association's Yarraman Markets will be held on the vacant block at the corner of the D'Aguilar and New England Highways in Yarraman from 7:00am until around 12:00 noon today (ie opposite Bendigo Bank). The markets feature trash and treasure stalls, car boot sellers, local produce and hand-made goods, as well as food stalls, and are held on the second Saturday of every month. Bands At The Butt Talent Search - Blackbutt
Boots'N Bulldust will be holding a Bands At The Butt Talent Search competition at the Blackbutt Town Common next to the Blackbutt Memorial Hall in Coulson Street today. Country and country rock artists are invited to strut their stuff to be in the running for a $5000 first prize (a Launchpad Package from the Pushworth Management Agency). Nomination fees are $11 for seniors (over 18) or juveniles (12-17 years), and juniors are $5.50 (under 12s), and the public can watch the competition unfold for free. More details? Booie Hall Ball - Booie

2015 Heritage Nanango Country Muster
The 2015 Heritage Nanango Country Muster will be held at the Nanango Showgrounds in Cairns Street, Nanango from the 11th to the 14th of September this year, and today - the main day - the Muster will get underway at 9:00am with an Invited Artists Concert that will run right through until 11:00pm tonight. You can get in to attend today's concert for $30 (or $15 if you want to attend from 3:00pm onwards); or you can buy a 4-day pass to the entire event for $45 (young people aged 14 to 17 can get tickets for half price, and under-14s accompanied by an adult can get in for free). A bar and canteen will be running all day, and camping will also be available at the Showgrounds for between $7 and $9 per night - but a booking for any camp site is essential because the Muster usually packs the Showgrounds to capacity. Bloomin' Beautiful Blackbutt Festival
The main day of the 2015 Bloomin Beautiful Blackbutt Festival - Blackbutt's annual town festival - will be held in and around Blackbutt today. This year's event will feature floral and produce displays; home and garden stalls; vintage machinery and fire brigade displays; photography, art and sculpture competitions; a reptile show; quilting, embroidery, wool spinning, felting and jewellery exhibitions; roving entertainers; a street parade at 1:00pm; a battle of the bands competition (see Bands At The Butt, above); and a lot more running between 8:00am to 5:00pm at the Festival's six venues - the Blackbutt Showgrounds, Blackbutt Rail Head, Hart Street Library, Les Muller Park, Blackbutt's main street and the Blackbutt Hall. Free car parking and overnight camping is available at the Blackbutt Showgrounds. Admission is free and everyone is welcome. You can find out more on the Festival's website.
Speedway Practice Night - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Speedway Club will be holding a practice night at the Kingaroy Showgrounds in Youngman Street, Kingaqroy as drivers begin to prepare for the club's first meeting of the 2015-2016 season on November 7. There'll be lots of pedal-to-the-metal action and lots of noise (tonight's meeting is open to all divisions), and spectators can get in free to watch it providing they stay away from the pits.
Junior Soccer Grand Finals - Kingaroy
The Grand Finals of this year's Junior Soccer competition will be played at Tom Alford Oval at the end of Oliver Bond Street in Kingaroy this morning. The Consolation Final between Barambah Painting Contractors Bears and Flemings Garage Panthers will be played at 8:30am; and the Grand Final between the Kingaroy Joinery Redbacks and the South Burnett Car Sales and Window Tinting Redbacks will be played at 10:15am. Spectators and supporters are very welcome.
Kingaroy Red Ants Presentation Day
The Kingaroy Red Ants rugby league club will be holding their end-of-season Presentation Day at their clubhouse at T.J. O'Neill Oval in Youngman Street, Kingaroy at 4:00pm this afternoon (gates open at 3:00pm). All Red Ants players and supporters are welcome!
Walk For William - Wondai
A "Walk For William" will be held at the Wondai Sportsground off the Bunya Highway just north of town at 10:15am this morning (walk starts at 10:30am). Walkers are asked to wear Spiderman outfits or dress in red and blue, and the distance covered will be 2km. You can read more about this walk on our website.
Nanango Stamp Club Meeting
The Nanango Stamp Club will be holding its monthly meeting at 94 Burnett Street, Nanango from 10:00am onwards this morning, followed by a social lunch. The club is the South Burnett's sole affiliated member of the Queensland Philatelic Council, and promotes the hobby of stamp collecting in our region. It meets on the second Saturday morning of each month, and anyone interested in stamp collecting is very welcome to come along for a fun morning out with fellow collectors. More details? The South Burnett Musical Comedy Society's Relay for Life team will be holding a special "Comedy Capers Devonshire Tea" at St Mary's Hall in Albert Street, Kingaroy at 2:00pm this afternoon.
