Remembrance Day

Today is Remembrance Day and a number of public services will be held throughout the South Burnett at 11:00am this morning to mark it. Everyone is welcome to attend these services to acknowledge the sacrifices made by our nation's servicemen and women in all the conflicts Australia has participated in. Today's Remembrance Day services will also mark the 101st anniversary of the Armistice which ended the First World War.
Blackbutt:
A service will be held at the Blackbutt War Memorial at the corner of Coulson and Hart Streets from 10:50am sharp. This will be followed by a Lions community sausage sizzle at Blackbutt RSL from noon.
Yarraman:
A service will be held at the Yarraman Cenotaph on the D'Aguilar Highway at 11:00am (wreath-layers should arrive prior to 10:45am).
Nanango:
A service will be held at the Nanango War Memorial at the corner of Henry and Drayton streets from 11:00am this morning (assembly is at 10:40am). The service will be followed by finger foods and refreshments at the RSL. Note: A service will also be held at the Karinya Aged Care Home at 9:00am for Karinya residents.
Kingaroy:
This year's Kingaroy Remembrance Day service will be held at Kingaroy State High School to mark the opening of a new Memorial Wall in the school's grounds. The service is open to everyone, but guests are asked to arrive by 10:15am for a 10:40am start. This year's guest speaker will be former KSHS student Major Craig Campbell from the Royal Australian Signal Corps. After the service, all guests will be invited to Kingaroy RSL for refreshments.
Wondai:
A service will be held at the cenotaph outside the Wondai Town Hall at 11:00am this morning, and will be followed by refreshments at the Wondai Diggers Club in Mackenzie Street.
Murgon:
A service will be held at the Murgon War Memorial on the corner of Lamb and Gore Streets between 10:45am and 11:05am this morning. The service will be preceded by a parade which will assemble in the RSL club's car park at 10:15am before marching to the Cenotaph, and Lamb Street will be closed from 10:30am to 11:45am to allow the march to go ahead in safety. The day's proceedings will be followed by a light lunch in the Diggers Room to which everyone is invited.
Proston:
A service will be held at Proston State School, beginning at 10:30am
Goomeri:
A service will be held at the Goomeri Memorial Clock in the heart of town at 11:00am (attendees should arrive no later than 10:45am)
Kilkivan:
A flag-raising ceremony will be held at the RSL Memorial Park at 11:00am
Boondooma:
A Remembrance Day ceremony will be held at Boondooma Homestead from 10:00am this morning, commencing with morning tea followed by a service starting at 10:30am during which new plaques will be unveiled for WWI soldiers, and then a BBQ lunch. To help plan the catering, though, an RSVP to (07) 4168-0159 would be greatly appreciated.
Kumbia Quilt & Craft Group
The Kumbia Quilt & Craft Group meets on the 2nd and 4th Monday of each month at the Kumbia QCWA Rooms in Bell Street at 7:30pm. New members are always welcome. More details? Phone Heather on (07) 4164-4258 or Val on 0437-152-713.
Goomeri Community Choir
The Goomeri Community Choir will be meeting at the Goomeri Hall Of Memory in Boonara Street from 5:30pm to around 7:00pm tonight for their weekly practice session. Monday Evening Bingo - Blackbutt
Bingo games will be held at Nukku Nook at the head of the Blackbutt Rail Trail in Hart Street, Blackbutt from 7:00pm this evening (eyes down at 7:30pm sharp). Cooinda Craft Group - Kingaroy
The Cooinda Craft Group will be holding its regular Monday morning meeting at the Town Common Hall in Oliver Bond Street, Kingaroy from 9:00am to 1:30pm today. Members of the group pursue a variety of crafts and newcomers are always welcome.
Murgon SES Training Night
The Murgon SES will be holding their regular Monday night training session at the SES Building in Gore Street, Murgon from 7:00pm to 9:00pm tonight. Anyone from the Murgon district who's interested in joining the SES (or simply finding out more about what's involved) is very welcome to come along.
Nanango Men's Shed
The Nanango Men's Shed at the corner of Mt Stanley Road and Heathermore Lane, Nanango will be open from 8:30am to 12:30pm today (and also on Wednesdays). New members are very welcome! More details? Phone Ben on 0491-102-087
Monday Night Line Dancing - Proston
Line dancing classes will be held at the Proston Community Hall in Rodney Street, Proston tonight. A beginners class will run at 5:00pm and an advanced class at 6:30pm. Class fees are $5 per head and everyone is welcome!
Sing Australia - Kingaroy
The South Burnett branch of the Sing Australia singing group will be holding their regular Monday night meeting at the Uniting Church Hall in Alford Street, Kingaroy (opposite Shoppingworld) from 7:00pm to around 9:00pm this evening. The group have a welcoming, inclusive and fun approach to singing and meet every Monday except for school and public holidays. Proston Scout Group
The Proston Scout troop will be holding their regular Monday night meeting at their Railway Park den in Rodney Street from 5:00pm to 7:00pm tonight. The group meets every Monday night during school terms.

Public Meeting - Kumbia
A public meeting will be held at Kumbia Memorial Hall in Bell Street, Kumbia at 6:00pm this evening to further develop a community plan for the town. The meeting will follow on from an initial meeting held on October 22 which identified 16 possible improvement projects for the town and its surrounds. Tonight's meeting will focus on refining those ideas, and then prioritising them for an upcoming third meeting in December which will present them to the South Burnett Regional Council. Heritage House Meeting - Yarraman
