South Burnett CTC - Working For Our Community
Wondai Races Winter Race Day
The South Burnett Race Club will be holding their annual Wondai Winter Race Day meeting at the Wondai race track in Cadell Street, Wondai from around 12:00 noon today (the first race leaves the barriers around 1:35pm). The theme of today's meeting is "Winter Wonderland" and guests are encouraged to dress to this theme to be in the running for great prizes in the hotly-contested Fashions Of The Field competition. As usual, the meeting will feature an on-course TAB; live telecasts of Brisbane and interstate races (along with interstate betting fluctuations); a vigorous undercover betting ring; a great BBQ and bar and a Punters Podium. The always popular Lady Luck Cocktail Bar will be in full swing too, along with the track's canteen, and admission to the meeting is just $10. Buses will be leaving the Fitzroy Hotel in Nanango at noon, the Commercial Hotel in Kingaroy at 12:30pm, Proston’s Golden Spurs Hotel at 11:30am, the Hivesville Hotel at 11:45am and the Murgon Newsagency at 12:30pm (phone 0402-715-242 to guarantee a seat). Lifestyle Expo & Sub-Chamber Judging - Nanango
A number of events are happening at the Nanango Showgrounds today. Team Penning will begin at 7:00am and run through until 10:00pm. This will be run in conjunction with the third annual Lifestyle Expo (which is on again tomorrow) which also includes an Alpaca show and the Queensland Dexter Breeds Show. As well, the judging for the South Burnett Sub-Chamber will take place from 8:00am to noon.
Saturday Soccer - Nanango and Kingaroy
The eleventh round of the 2015 South Burnett Evolution Solar Football League competition will be played at Kingaroy and Nanango this afternoon. In Kingaroy, home team Gunners will face off against Barambah at Tom Alford Oval in Oliver Bond Street, with 1st Division hitting the park at 2:00pm; Women's Division at 3:15pm; and 2nd Division at 5:00pm. And in Nanango, home team Panthers will play Wests at the Nanango Soccer Fields in Burnett Street, with the 2nd Division match kicking off at 12:30pm; Women's Division at 2:00pm; and 1st Division at 3:15pm. A bar and canteen will be running at both venues, admission is free and spectators are very welcome!
Rugby League - Murgon
The finals of the Burnett Championship will be played in Murgon today. The mid-year competition has seen North Burnett and South Burnett teams playing each other over the past few weeks. The Plate Final, between Cherbourg and Mundubbera, will kick off at 3:00pm. The Burnett Cup match, between Wondai and Monto, will start at 5:00pm. Earlier in the day, Murgon will face Central Burnett in U14s at 12:30pm and U16s at 1:30pm.
Camp Oven Dinner Night - Kumbia
The Kumbia Hotel in Bell Street, Kumbia will be holding a Camp Oven Dinner from 6:00pm until late tonight. For $17 (adults) or $8 (kids 8-12) per head, guests can get to enjoy a dinki-di camp oven stew of beef, pork or lamb with baked veggies and dessert, then kick back for a fun night of entertainment from the South Burnett's own country rock star Arthur Nettelfield. Accommodation is available too, if you want to make a night of it (and there's free camping if you want to stay outside and rough it). Nanango Stamp Club Meeting
The Nanango Stamp Club will be holding its monthly meeting at 94 Burnett Street, Nanango from 10:00am onwards this morning, followed by a social lunch. The club is the South Burnett's sole affiliated member of the Queensland Philatelic Council, and promotes the hobby of stamp collecting in our region. It meets on the second Saturday morning of each month, and anyone interested in stamp collecting is very welcome to come along for a fun morning out with fellow collectors. More details? South Burnett Speedway Club Annual Presentation Dinner
The South Burnett Speedway Club will be holding its annual Presentation Dinner for club members, drivers and Speedway fans in the Kingaroy RSL's Tobruk Room from 6:00pm until late tonight. Tickets to the dinner are $40 for adults, $20 for children aged 12-16, and $10 for children under 12. They can be booked by phoning Tanya Barron on 0487-003-404. Too Ezy - Kingaroy
Popular South Burnett entertainers Too Ezy (Brad Buckley and Tony Cisneros) will be performing at the Carrollee Hotel in King Street, Kingaroy from 7:30pm until late tonight. Admission is free. More details from the hotel on (07) 4162-1055.
Yarraman Markets
The Yarraman Progress Association's Yarraman Markets will be held on the vacant block at the corner of the D'Aguilar and New England Highways in Yarraman from 7:00am until around 12:00 noon today (ie opposite Bendigo Bank). The markets feature trash and treasure stalls, car boot sellers, local produce and hand-made goods, as well as food stalls, and are held on the second Saturday of every month. Seafood Buffet - Murgon
Sakina's Seafood Buffet - which is held on the 2nd Saturday of each month - will be running at the Saleyard Cafe on Gayndah Road at Murgon at 6:30pm this evening. This BYO buffet offers everything from fresh oysters to Moreton Bay bugs, crabs, prawns and cooked seafoods, but bookings are essential if you want to be sure of a seat: (07) 4168-5701.
South Burnett Woodcrafters - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Woodcrafters will be holding their regular Saturday morning meeting at their clubhouse, which is located behind the Kingaroy Visitor Information Centre in Haly Street from 8:00am to around mid-day today.
