Armistice Centenary Charity Dinner Concert - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Community Orchestra will be presenting a gala charity dinner concert at Kingaroy Town Hall tonight to commemorate the Armistice Centenary. The event will include a three-course dinner and doors will open at 6:00pm. Tickets can be booked online or bought in person at Kingaroy Office Central in Haly Street, Kingaroy. 100th Anniversary Armistice Day Ball - Nanango
A ball to mark the 100th anniversary of World War I's Armistice Day will be held from 7:30pm to midnight tonight at Tara's Hall at 26 Henry Street, Nanango. This old-fashioned excuse to dress up has been organised by the Nanango Citizens Auxiliary. Music will be provided by Swing Magic and a light supper will be available. Tickets for the evening are $35 and are available from the Reception desk at Nanango RSL Club. Tonight's ball is being sponsored by Heritage Community Branch, Nanango.
Wooroolin Lions Mega Car Boot Sale
The Wooroolin Lions will be holding a Mega Car Boot Sale from 6:00am to 12:00 noon this morning in Wooroolin's CBD in conjunction with the monthly Wooroolin QCWA's Community Markets (see entry below). You can bring along your surplus stuff to turn it into cash, or bring along your cash to turn into stuff. There's no charge for shoppers and a slim $10 fee to set up as a seller (setup begins at 5:00am - register on the day). The Lions will also be manning the BBQs to offer great bacon and egg sandwiches and steak sandwiches if you're feeling peckish, and there'll also be face-painting and a jumping castle for the kids, along with live music by popular local performers Footsteps. South Burnett Cricket
Four local cricket matches are scheduled to be played around the South Burnett today, and there'll also be two away games. In A Grade, Murgon Crusaders will play Harlequins at Kozminsky Oval in Gympie, and Southern District Devils will take on Gympie Valleys at Spencer Oval, Gympie. Meanwhile, in B Grade, the Kumbia Rattlers will play Cherbourg at the Kumbia Sports Ground in what promises to be a very good match; Kallindale Warriors will take on Blackbutt at Lyle Vidler Oval in Kingaroy; Kingaroy Services will play Nanango at Taabinga State School in Kingaroy; and Murgon District will play Wondai at the Murgon Sportsgrounds. All games start at 12:30pm and spectators are very welcome.
Moffatdale State School Golf Day - Murgon
Moffatdale State School P&C's annual golf day will be held this afternoon at the Murgon Golf Club on the Bunya Highway south of the CBD. Team names for the nine-hole three-person ambrose must be in by noon for a shotgun start at 1:00pm. Entry is $20, which includes a hamburger before tee-off. Yarraman Markets
The Yarraman Progress Association's Yarraman Markets will be held on the vacant block at the corner of the D'Aguilar and New England Highways in Yarraman from 7:00am until around 12:00 noon today (ie opposite Bendigo Bank). The markets feature trash and treasure stalls, car boot sellers, local produce and hand-made goods, as well as food stalls, and are held on the second Saturday of every month. Proston Bottle Tree Carnival
The Proston Bowls Club in Murphy Way, Proston will be hosting its annual Bottle Tree Bowls Carnival today, kicking off with morning tea at 9:00am. This is an Open Fours competition and bowlers from all over the South, Central and North Burnett routinely take part to renew old friendships and have a great day on the greens. Teams can register by phoning John on 0427-454-900, and spectators are very welcome to come along, too.
Kingaroy Swap Meet
The Kingaroy and District Machinery Club will be holding its second annual swap meet at its club grounds in Geoff Raph Drive (near Kingaroy Airport) from 6:00am today. Stall sites (6m x 3m) are $25. Set-up on Friday. To book a stall, contact Jeff on 0428-625-408 or Justin on 0438-623-431.
28th Annual Golden Oldies Reunion - Cherbourg
Cherbourg's annual Golden Oldies Reunion for former residents of Cherbourg will be celebrating its 28th birthday at the Cherbourg Community Hall today with a Golden Oldies afternoon from 12:00 noon to around 5:00pm. This year's get-together has a "Because Of Her, We Can" theme that guests are encouraged to dress to. Wondai Parkrun
The Wondai parkrun group will be holding their weekly 5km timed run at Coronation Park in Wondai at 7:00am this morning. Runners follow a course along the South Burnett Rail Trail and the parkrun group is free to join. Armistice Country Fair - Blackbutt
Blackbutt will be celebrating the Centenary of Armistice with a Country Fair in the area between Nukku Nook and the Blackbutt Memorial Hall at the end of Hart Street Road, Blackbutt from 8:00am to 3:00pm today (there'll also be a street parade at 9:30am). Armistice Centenary Ball - Blackbutt
An Armistice Centenary Ball will be held at the Blackbutt Memorial Hall in Bowman Road, Blackbutt tonight. Doors will open at 6:30pm for a 7:00pm start and guests are encouraged to wear formal dress or 1918 period dress (medals are optional). Entertainment will be provided by the Cool Nights Big Band and there'll be a hot and cold supper and licensed bar as well. South Burnett Speedway - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Speedway Club will be holding their second meeting of the new racing year at their track inside the Kingaroy Showgrounds in Youngman Street, Kingaroy this afternoon and evening. The meeting will feature V8 Dirt Modifieds, Modified Sedans, Production Sedans, Street Stocks, Junior Sedans and Compact Speedcars. Admission is $25 for adults and $15 for concessions and students, but under 12s can get in for free if accompanied by an adult, Food and drinks will be available in the grounds, too. Gates will open at 2:00pm, with racing getting underway around 4:00pm. You can find out more on the Speedway's website.
DJ Ty - Kingaroy
