And this year - our
12th year of continuous broadcasting on the Net
- we'll be marking this by undergoing a
major design change.
The version of our site that you're seeing now was originally built in
2004 for a South Burnett where only 40% of our population was
on the Net and virtually everyone used dial-up to do it. Those sorts
of constraints meant that we had to be very lean, mean and fast. So we did
that.
But now - in 2012 - the percentage of the South Burnett that's online is
much closer to 85%. And the overwhelming majority of you are now on
some form of broadband - either ADSL, wireless or satellite. In addition,
many web technologies that were either in the kindergarten stage or didn't
exist at all in 2004 (eg: Google maps, Facebook etc) have now become mainstream
and stable
So in 2012 we'll be undertaking a long-overdue makeover to bring ourselves
into line with where your world is right now.
This will mean that on some occasions (while we do this work) some parts
of our website might look more like a building site than what you've become
used to. So we'd like to apologise to you in advance for any hiccups
you might run across. And to assure you they'll only be temporary.
One thing that won't change, though, is our focus. We've always been
about serving the South Burnett's communities. And in 2012 everything
we do will be focussed on bringing you better things. So thank you
for your patience while we do this.
