21st April 2009: Hello everyone! On
March 23rd
South Burnett Online celebrated its
ninth birthday. But since the
State Election was in full swing we held off announcing it for the last few
weeks so that all the voting results could be finalised.
We're very pleased to report that in the last 12 months our web site statistics
tell us that we received 703,611 visitors. This averages out to around
13,530 visitors a week. Week in and week out. And since we're the
major way that people find out about our wonderful region on the Internet,
that's good news for everyone!
We're sure you'll also agree that it's a pretty amazing climb from the 6,488
people who came to see us in our first year way back in 2000-2001 (or
the 19,516 who came to see us in Year 2; or the 52,251 people
who came to see us in Year 3). But it shows just how much the Internet has
become an essential, everyday part of all our lives over the last 9 years,
doesn't it?
We think it also shows that when some people say "no-one reads the Internet"
or "no-one pays attention to the Net" what they're really saying is that
they're deeply out of touch with modern life. Net penetration in the
South Burnett is now more than 60%. And Net penetration in urban areas
is now around 70%. So these days, anyone who isn't on the Net is firmly
in the minority. Why else would the Rudd Government want to get superfast
broadband into every home?
Anyway, we look forward to our 10th year of serving you. We have some exciting
things planned and the only thing that stands between us and bringing them
to you right now is the mountain of work required to make them happen.
But we're working on it!
